How frequent is your publication?
We are a semiannual publication, coming out once in the fall and once in the spring.

Does Ecotone accept electronic submissions?
We do now accept electronic submissions through an online submissions manager called Submittable. If you prefer to submit in that format, please follow this link: There is a $3 service fee to use the online submissions system.

Does Ecotone accept simultaneous submissions?
Yes, but we ask that you let us know immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.

Can I send multiple submissions?
Please submit only one work of fiction or nonfiction, and no more than five poems. You may submit to more than one genre, but include an SASE for each. We ask that you do not resubmit to Ecotone until you have received a response.

When can I expect a response to my submission?
The number of submissions we receive increases every year, and we do our best to respond in a timely manner. We have a small staff of readers who carefully consider each submission, and we ask for your patience. Please wait five months before sending a query. If you have not heard from us within five months of your submission’s postmark date, you may send an e-mail inquiry to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

What are you looking for?
The most self-evident answer we can give is to read an issue and discover for yourself. Much of the writing we publish follows a loose interpretation of our themes: borders and boundaries between the natural world and the human world. However, we are not exclusively a nature journal, and pieces about nature do not have an inherent advantage in our selection process. Our primary goal is to conjoin the sciences and the humanities in a way not seen elsewhere, to break out of the pen of the purely literary and wander freely between the disciplines. In order to do that, we choose dynamic and original writing that fits our aesthetic, regardless of subject matter.
