John Horgan is the director of the Center for Science Writings at Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He was a senior writer at Scientific American for more than a decade, and has also written for the New York Times, Time, Newsweek, the Washington Post, the Times Literary Supplement, and other publications around the world. He blogs for Bloggingheads.tv and writes a column called The Last Word for BBC Knowledge Magazine.
